Iván Andrassew's appeal

Iván Andrassew, a journalist and political writer of the social democratic daily Népszava turned on 12 March 2011 with a dramatic appeal,^1,2 a kind of festive speech, to journalists, politicians and all democrats of the world. The English version³ of the appeal is published below with the permission of the author. The text has been fully released by the author; he even asks for disseminating the appeal by all electronic and conventional means.

Iván Andrassew, Journalist und Publizist der sozialdemokratischen Tageszeitung Népszava an Journalisten, Politiker und alle Demokraten der Welt. Mit Erlaubnis des Autoren veröffentlichen wir untenstehend die deutsche Version³ des Appells. Der Text wurde vom Autor ganz freigegeben; er bittet sogar um eine Verbreiterung des Appells mit allen möglichen elektronischen und konventionellen Mitteln.

"Kedves barátaim, üzenni szeretnék a barátainknak szerte a világon. Köszönöm, hogy sokan vannak, és köszönöm, hogy nem hagyják ezt a meggyöngült demokráciát teljesen szétesni Magyarországon. Amit most mondok, azért engem a saját hazámban hazaárulónak minősít majd a hatalom, és pláne annak szócsövei. Nem baj.

Gyöngyöspata witness

The tension that has been growing for weeks between members of Véderő -- the paramilitary extremist group -- and the local Roma has burst out.

The Civil Guard Association for a Better Future (part of Jobbik), was patrolling the town of Gyöngyöspata day and night, for over two weeks in March 2011. They reportedly prevented the Romani residents from sleeping by shouting during the night, threatened them with weapons and dogs and followed them every time they left their houses, unimpeded by local police. The desperate Roma residents were afraid to go to school, to work or even to buy food. Finally, the Szebb Jövőért Polgárőr Egyesület indicated that, having successfully established their presence in Gyöngyöspata, they will also set up chapters in other towns to expand their "patrols".

The Szebb Jövőért Polgárőr Egyesület patrols have been supported by the far-right political party Jobbik, which organised a march of thousands through the village in black military uniform on 6 March. According to the ERRC's monitoring, there were at least 48 attacks against Roma in Hungary between 2008 and 2010, which resulted in at least 9 deaths. The presence of anti-Roma vigilante groups in Roma neighbourhoods adds to growing inter-ethnic tensions and fuels a climate of violence.⁽¹⁾

Béla Tarr, ungarischer Regisseur

Das am 7.7.2011 im Tagesspiegel veröffentlichte und später vorübergehend gesperrte Interview mit dem ungarischen Filmemacher und Berlinare-Preisträger Béla Tarr über politische Verhältnisse in seiner Heimat wurde von der Redaktion wieder zugänglich gemacht.⁽¹⁾

"Wie hat sich das kulturelle Klima in Ungarn verändert?

Bei uns passiert gerade, was man in Deutschland "Kulturkampf" nennt. Die Regierung hasst die Intellektuellen, weil sie liberal und oppositionell sind, sie beschimpft uns als Vaterlandsverräter. Agnes Heller werfen sie sogar vor, sie habe dem Staat Geld gestohlen. Dabei ist sie 81, sie weiß gar nicht, was Geld ist!"

Isaszeg: neo-fascist provocation expected

A Hungarian congregation of one of the Evangelical Pentecostal Fellowship Church keeps a day of Israel-friendship in Isaszeg (Pest county).
The Hungarian illegitimate neo-fascist parliamentary party, Jobbik announced a demonstration in front of the house of the congregation. According to our informal sources Loránt Hegedűs, the Reformed pastor having supported the neo-fascist movements for years, will also take part in the neo-fascist rally.

Hungarian democrats and anti-fascists are organizing a visit the church event in Isaszeg, to protect democracy and protest against the neo-fascists.

According to the far neo-fascist website, kuruc.info (http://kuruc.info/r/26/75256/) the ambassador of the State of Israel in Hungary also will be a guest of the congregation at the event.
