Neo-Nazi with his Jewish Grandmother

Csanad Szegedi, a leader of Hungary’s illegal neo-Nazi parliamentary party Jobbik has a Jewish grandmother.

"Since 2009, Szegedi has belonged to Jobbik-Movement for a Better Hungary (Jobbik), a nationalistic political party denoted by scholars and media outlets as anti-Semitic, anti-Roma, homophobic, and neo-fascist. Szegedi garnered copious media attention three years ago for attending the first session of the European Parliament clothed in the Uniform of Jobbik’s banned paramilitary arm, the Hungarian Guard."⁽¹⁾

"The campaign to eliminate Jobbik from the Hungarian political arena has shifted into higher gears... Szegedi's grandmother, Magdolna Klein was deported to Auschwitz in June 1944. After returning from the camp, she married to Orthodox Jew, Imre Meisels who died in the '80s. Szegedi's grandmother is still alive."⁽²⁾

Barikad.hu, the rude neo-Nazi website (and also the closely related weakly Bar!kád)  of Jobbik published an interview with Szegedi who was explaining at great length that he was a "good Jew".^(3)(a)

Anonymous's attack against Hungarian neo-Nazi websites

A coordinated attack was launched by Hungarian members of the hacker group Anonymous⁽¹⁾ against the illegal neo-Nazi websites including the illegal neo-Nazi Hungarian parliamentary party's website, Jobbik.

For a while these site was blocked. The site of Jobbik, and the prominent members of it, namely of chairman Gábor Vona, EU parliament member Krisztina Morvai, the PM Tamás Gaudi Nagy, and the Hungarian Guard (Magyar Gárda) were not available.^(2-6)

Hungarian Anonymous called the action Fuck the Nazi. Their announcement can be read in English too.⁽⁷⁾ 
They scheduled the action for this day because of Hitler's birthday.

Neo-Nazis's answer came of usual Nazi style on of the meida-site of Jobbik, Barikád.hu⁽⁸⁾, and they have formed a counter-Facebook page: Anti Anonymous Operation Hungary⁽⁹⁾

The counter-attack was performed soon by neo-Nazis. The Jewish online medium, judapest.com is hacked and it's content can be modified by neo-Nazis. This moment it is a free prey.⁽¹⁰⁾

It is not justified whether the anti-Nazi attack was performed by real Anonymous group. The most rude and dirty Hungarian neo-Nazi site⁽¹¹⁾ allegedly has found the originator of the anti-Nazi action and they publicized his personal data on their site violating the law. They say he is a liberal, maybe a Jewish, of course.

We were a little surprised by the fact that there are antifascists among Hungarian members of Anonymous. We were convinced that they are all neo-Nazis.

Nazi speech in the Hungarian Parlaiment

Karl Pfeifer's article⁽¹⁾ gives more details about the scandal that has recently happened in the Hungarian Parliament, namely that the illegal⁽²⁾ neo-Nazi party Jobbik MP, Zsolt Baráth, delivered an explicit Nazi speech there. The article also reveals some of the background of the Tiszaeszlár case related to the girl Eszter Solymosi⁽³⁾. Furthermore, Karl Pfeifer gives some references and weblinks having documentary values.

Should our readers - especially those not living in Hungary - wish to understand what is going on in today's Hungary they should definitely read the whole article.

Inciting Nazi speech on Tiszaeszlár in the Hungarian Parliament

An inciting racist and anti-Semitic speech was given on 3 April 2012, after the agenda in the Hungarian Parliament.⁽¹⁾ Zsolt Baráth, representative of Jobbik, a Nazi party that's existence is obviously violating the Paris Peace Treaty,⁽²⁾ reiterated and brought up-to-date in five minutes the racist accusations of the "Hungarian Dreyfus affair", the Tiszaeszlár blood libel⁽³⁾ of 1882-83 that were deemed unfounded and refused by the independent court already that time.

Although Baráth's speech was censured by János Fónagy, secretary of state of the Fidesz party, he missed mentioning that this speech was a proof of Jobbik's being a Nazi organisation and that this should be followed by the proscription of the party.

Hungary has by now become probably the only country of the world where in case of such a speech other members of the Parliament do not leave the chamber immediately. How can representatives considering themselves democrats share a room with Nazis at all?

Antifa activists remove Árpád-stripes flag in Budapest

The far-right's red-white-striped Árpád-stripes⁽⁴⁾ flag appeared next to red-white-green Hungarian flag on a building in Zugló, the 14^th district of Budapest on the national holiday of 15 March 2012, the daily newspaper Népszava⁽¹⁾ and the blog Fotolexikon⁽²⁾ report.

This fact generated some discussion and amazement on Facebook. The journalist Mónika Török encouraged citizens of the district to remove the flag rather than just to bewail the situation. The replies to this suggestion were sceptic and reluctant, nevertheless some Nazis immediately came up with threats for the case should the flag disappear. Some commentators had moral(!) scruples about doing something like this by saying: 'you should realize that resistance has never been a custom of us, leftists'. Seeing that no action can be expected from local activists, the journalist and some of her companions removed the Nazi-flag by themselves and reported about the action^(2,3) on Facebook.

The reaction to this report was at least disappointing. Some comments admittedly expressed appreciation and congratulated to the action, however, most of them gave voice to concern and fear about possible consequences or even revenge - 'oh my God, what will happen now', a commentator wrote. Conversely, the Nazis were not so shy. Gross verbal insults and threats to murder appeared immediately including anti-Semitic sayings like: "The summer-camp Auschwitz will be re-opened and then they may lament as much as they want to. Tee-hee."

(a) Although the Árpád stripes⁽⁴⁾ have centuries old historical origins, they have fascist connotations because the Nazi puppet government formed by members of the Hungarian Arrow Cross Party, which was in place for seven months (October 1944–April 1945), used a similar symbol as a component of their flag in the 1940s. Today Hungarian neo-Nazis deny the relation to the symbol of Arrow Cross Party saying that theirs is different. But the strong similarity is undoubted and one hardly could say it is unintentional. Anyway, today the Árpád stripes pattern (on flag or different material) is preferably used by Hungarian far-rights only .

Double standard

We wrote about a planned action of the illegal Neo-Nazi parliamentary party Jobbik in Veszprém: Jobbik-rally: "We are sick and tired of the Holocaust!!!"

On the photos of the reports⁽¹⁾ can be seen that Nazis were about ten maybe. It is said that the counter-protesters could be twice more than Nazis. They hold sheets with slogans formally similar to Nazis' ones but contrary in meaning: "We are fed up with anti-Semitism and Nazism!".

According to the Jobbik article⁽²⁾ the police made the counter-protesters to take off badges with the universal antifascist symbol crossed-out swastika on them. Though we have not any confirmation but we strongly believe that they obeyed without any objection. The real reason also is not known why the police did it⁽³⁾.

Pretty Hungarian absurdity that the police (and also all of the Hungarian authorities) has no any problem with illegal Neo-Nazis. As for the Anti-Nazi protesters, well, they don't dare say Nazis illegal. Maybe they cannot understand why would be.

Veszprém: protest against the Nazi outrage

We wrote about a next action planned by Neo-Nazis in a Hungarian town Veszprém in a recent post with title  "Jobbik-rally: "We are sick and tired of the Holocaust!!!"" (17/03/2012).

Now the local organizations of the Democratic Coalition⁽¹⁾ in Veszprém County⁽²⁾ announced they protest against the planned Neo-Nazi outrage. A piece of the Hungarian text of the announcement⁽³⁾:

A Demokratikus Koalíció Veszprém megyei szervezetei elítélik ezt és tiltakoznak ez ellen!
A XX. évszázad kirívóan szégyenletes bűne a holokauszt volt. Jobbik-rally: "We are sick and tired of the Holocaust!!!"

Following announcement can be read in the web page of the Veszprém primary organization of the Jobbik party, in the rubric "Local events":⁽¹⁾

The cattle-truck supported by the March of the Living Foundation and spiralling throughout the country while making anti-Hungarian propaganda will arrive at Veszprém, after Székesfehérvár, on 19 March.

In our opinion, we cannot pass over this event in silence either and, therefore, we have organized a rally in Veszprém, in the field in front of the railway station on 19 March from 10 am to 1 pm.

We are expecting everyone who is sick and tired of the Holocaust and of having one law for one's friends and another for one's foes.

Holocaust denial in the limelight of great publicity is a crime threatened with imprisonment up to three years according to the prevailing law in Hungary.^(2,3)

Furthermore, prevailing Hungarian law based on an international treaty forbids the activity of fascist organizations.⁽⁴⁾

We are looking forward with great interest to seeing when the Prosecution will fulfil its professional duty by initiating a criminal procedure against the law-breaker Jobbik and by initiating the proscription of this unlawfully existing Neo-Nazi party.

A Hungarian congregation of one of the Evangelical Pentecostal Fellowship Church keeps a day of Israel-friendship in Isaszeg (Pest county).
The Hungarian illegitimate neo-fascist parliamentary party, Jobbik announced a demonstration in front of the house of the congregation. According to our informal sources Loránt Hegedűs, the Reformed pastor having supported the neo-fascist movements for years, will also take part in the neo-fascist rally.

Hungarian democrats and anti-fascists are organizing a visit the church event in Isaszeg, to protect democracy and protest against the neo-fascists.

According to the far neo-fascist website, kuruc.info (http://kuruc.info/r/26/75256/) the ambassador of the State of Israel in Hungary also will be a guest of the congregation at the event.
